Message from the Chair

I have always been amazed by the work produced from the Alliance office. The staff is caring and professional and partnered with a supportive, diverse and extremely knowledgeable board. We function very well together using the Policy Governance Model.

Catherine and Norman are without doubt the best staff we could ask for. Their judgement and keen instincts make the organization run smoothly. They keep the lines of communication open to our members and the community as a whole. They and others working in the office help to open very special doors that lead to far more meaningful lives for many Islanders.

The job of the PEI Literacy Alliance is to advance literacy for the people of Prince Edward Island. Literacy is a gift to which we are all entitled. With our partners in the Federal, Provincial and local governments and our entire coalition, we administer what we hope are meaningful and quality programs. I'm proud to be part of this team and your new Chair.

In coming months I will lean on Mary Burke, our Past Chair, for advice. She has finished her term as the very effective leader of this board leaving the organization in wonderful shape with a truly bright future. Hers are difficult shoes to fill but I will do the best job I can. Any offers of help gratefully accepted!
