PEI Literacy Alliance holds first semi-annual meeting

Board members

(L to R) Board members Allan Groen, Dr. Ray Doiron and Ann Sherman work on the mission statement

On April 9, the Alliance held a one hour meeting to discuss a new mission statement for the organization.

To reflect the broad nature of the work of the Alliance the consensus for a draft mission statement was “The PEI Literacy Alliance advances literacy for the people of Prince Edward Island.” We also came up with a suggestion for a slogan: “Literacy for All -- Learning for Life”.

After the business meeting, board members and staff joined organization member representatives for dinner in the Lucy Maud Dining Room of the Culinary Institute. Following the meal, Barbara Macnutt, manager of the Literacy Initiatives Secretariat, gave a speech. She complimented the Alliance on its hard work for literacy.

Members were asked to fill out a survey to help guide our activities for the up-coming year.
