Group reading

At the Recognition Dinner on March 26 students shared comments about their volunteer experiences.

What I’ll remember most about this year is the time I sat down to read with a little girl and she started to tell me about Mary Cassatt, her favourite Impressionist artist - and I thought “Oh my gosh, she’s only 6! – Roseanne

I’ve been involved with SFL for two years and this year was better than the last and I’m sure that next year will be even better!! I will cherish the memories and smile when I think of all the fun. –Debbie OT for Homework Club

Frontier College Tent

It’s been a great year, Family Literacy Day, my mad rush to complete training are things I will never forget. – Jenn Gallé, OT for ESL

My most interesting experiences with reading circle were getting to know what books were “hot” with children and I always enjoyed taking time out of a busy schedule to relax and share some of my favourite books with them. I’ll certainly be back! – Stacey

It’s been really great getting to know everyone involved with SFL. Reading with my learner has been fun and I’ve really learned a lot. We read Calvin and Hobbes - little boy and his tiger. Hilarious! – Joey

Homework Club

I volunteered with adults at the Holland College. It was a very good experience. The students were very sweet and appreciative of my help. This semester was especially wonderful with a lively class. Overall a great experience. – Kelly

Working with the children helped me decide to go into education. The best part of the day was giving away the free books. The children’s faces would light up! A great experience! – Stacey

I volunteered at Spring Park Elementary with the Homework Club. I enjoyed helping the kids. We worked well together. I hope to be involved with Students for Literacy again next year. – Sarah
