Book Club

Congratulations to the Morell Public Library for hosting a book club for the second year in a row. Librarian Carol McGrath promises good books, good company and great conversation. Why not check them out?

Air Canada Receives Award

A bouquet to Air Canada for receiving the Joyce Fairbairn Literacy Public Awareness Award. The award was in recognition of their support for the PGI Golf Tournaments for Literacy and their new in-flight audio-book program called SKYword.

Storytime at the Food Bank

Congratulations to children’s librarian, Barb Kissick for presenting Storytime at the Food Bank for a second year. As the Story Lady, Barb reads to children at the Food Bank and offers small gifts of bookmarks, stickers and temporary tattoos. She gives some prizes of books and tapes compliments of the Alliance.

CLIA With Helps Distribution

A bouquet to member group Community Legal Information Association (CLIA) for distributing 400 copies of our new handbook on the Social Assistance system.

Communicating Better with Plain Language Design

What:  a hands-on workshop exploring effective design techniques
When:  Tuesday April 22
9:00am - 3:00pm

This workshop will be of interest to anyone involved in preparing publications for the public such as brochures, posters, etc.

The Co-operators Learner Achievement Award

This award of $200 will be presented at the PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy on June 13th.

		To qualify for the award the student:
		•	is an adult
		•	is planning to continue in a program
		•	has attended some type of program for at least six months
		•	has excellent attendance
		•	has a recommendation from a teacher or tutor
		•	is enrolled in a basic literacy program not to exceed a GED level

Deadline for applications is May 9th.
