Message from the Chair

Spring has arrived and the Alliance is Planning a busy summer. The Annual PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy is scheduled for June 11. It is our major fundraiser. It’s always a day of great golf, entertainment and a fabulous meal. The generous spirit and overwhelming support of corporations and individuals make this event a favourite with the staff.

The Alliance hosted a very successful Spelling Bee in March. A first for the Alliance, I believe it may become a yearly event helping to promote literacy, while kids and adults have an awfully good time.

Our March Semi-Annual Meeting was very well attended and everyone enjoyed the evening. Minister of Health Chester Gillan and Allan Buchanan were guests. The minister reminded us about the links between health, learning and literacy. Allan Buchanan told truly funny stories that showed how the words we use today are closely connected with the farming and fishing culture of our region.

As we head into the warm weather, the Alliance offices will be as busy as ever. Along with staff and fellow Board members, I wish all our members and readers a great summer.
