Carol Fraser is the 2004 Volunteer of the Year award winner. The award included an engraved plaque and a gift certificate from the Reading Well Bookstore. Our chair, Nora Young presented Carol with her prize at the semi-annual meeting in March.


New Alliance Document

The 2004 Directory of Assessment Services is now available. We survey organizations that offer learning assessments and compile the results into an annual directory. If you would like one, call the Alliance at 902-368-3620, or visit our web site www.pei.literacy.ca and click on “Publications.”

Grants Available

Thanks to the success of its PGI Golf Tournaments for Literacy, the PEI Literacy Alliance will make literacy grants available to qualifying organizations. This year we will distribute $15,000. Each grant has a maximum of $7,500.

There are two types of grants available: operational and special project.

Each applicant must be a PEI organization (corporation, institution or notfor- profit) that provides literacy training, literacy services, literacy advocacy and/or referral. Each applicant must be a registered Canadian charity or be sponsored by a registered charity.
