Message from the Chair

This Chair has no working knowledge of golf or any of its trappings. I do know that it’s a sport of ever increasing popularity and an important part of what makes PEI so attractive to fans. Many Islanders adore the game and make it a point each June to support the work done through this organization by taking part in the Golf Tournament for Literacy.

On June 13, Green Gables Golf Course was the setting for our most successful tournament thus far. The meal and awards ceremony were held at New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. A large number of people shared their time and talent to make this Friday the thirteenth a day of good fortune and good times.

One lucky person won the hole-in-one contest on hole #16. He drove away in a new Honda Civic Sportdonated by Capital Honda. This was the first time anyone had taken that prize. The course was donated for the morning by Island Coastal Services and the luncheon was sponsored by APM group.

This year, there were over $25,000 worth of donations and close to $30,000 was raised. The PEI Literacy Alliance staff and board would like to thank everyone involved for making this tournament such a huge success. Your generosity in both time and dollars translates into new opportunities and better lives or more Islanders than you can possibly imagine.
