New Project Staff for the Alliance

Destination Employment
photo - Sandra LeBlanc Hi. My name is Sandra LeBlanc and I am the new Regional Coordinator for Destination Employment, which is a job-readiness program for adults with learning disabilities. This is a national employment program developed by the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada and HRDC.

I will also be trying to establish a Prince Edward Island Learning Disability Association, acting as an Executive Director. My interest in this area developed because I have two children with learning disabilities.

I live in Cornwall with my husband, Ron LeBlanc, and our three children, Michael, Patrick and Marianne. I have a strong interest in helping out both children and adults with learning disabilities – helping them become the best that they can be.

Summer Tutoring Program for Kids
photo - Nora McCarthy Hello! My name is Nora McCarthy and I’m excited to be the coordinator of this program. I will graduate from UPEI this fall with a double major in Psychology and English. After that I will pursue a Master of Education degree. Reading and writing have always been passions of mine so I feel fortunate to continue down that path through school and work.

Our program is very worthwhile for both tutors and students. Each of our 21 tutors plans a career in education, making this tutoring experience very valuable to them. Our students benefit from the knowledge our tutors acquired from the Department of Education training and their school studies. Tutoring sessions are one-on-one and cater to the needs of each child. This year we are helping over 600 French and English school-aged children province-wide. In partnership with the Association for Newcomers, we also have nine English as a Second Language (ESL) students enrolled in the program. It looks like we are well on our way to another successful summer program!
