The Alliance is pleased to present our latest literacy winners. Last year we announced a scholarship program in the memory of literacy champions Bill Hancox, Harry MacLauchlan and Peter Gzowski. The scholarships provide three $1500 awards for adult learners who are continuing their studies at university or college.

The Bill Hancox Memorial Scholarship is for a UPEI student. The MacLauchlan and Gzowski scholarships go to Holland College students.

The PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy raises money for the scholarships.

The first PEI Literacy Alliance Annual Volunteer of the Year Award was given to Mary Lou Rogers for her tireless work with Laubach Literacy of Canada. It recognizes a person for excellent volunteer work.

Mary Lou willingly shares the knowledge and experience she acquired at Laubach Literacy as a tutor, Student Tutor Coordinator, PR chairperson and Council chairperson.

At the provincial level she served as a valued member of the Executive and at the national level as a board member, committee member, and committee chair. She has initiated programs and partnerships aimed at providing a wide range of literacy learning opportunities to those she serves. Congratulations Mary Lou.
