2004 Summer Tutoring Program for Kids

We are pleased to report that Nora McCarthy has returned as the coordinator of this program for 2004. She graduated from UPEI this spring with a double major in Psychology and English. She is very excited that she has been accepted into the Education program at UPEI.

Sponsored by the PEI Literacy Alliance our program is very worthwhile for both tutors and students. Each of our 21 tutors plans a career in education which makes this tutoring experience very valuable to them.

Tutoring sessions are one-on-one and cater to the needs of each child. This year we have had over 800 referrals from resource teachers across the Island. We provide tutoring for children in Englsih, French and french Immersion programs.

In partnership with the Association for Newcomers, we also have fourteen English as a Second Language (ESL) students enrolled in the program.

With support from the Student Career Placement Program of HRDC, the Department of Education, all the school boards and the Rotary Club of Charlottetown it looks like we are well on our way to another successful summer program!
