Good Job Eliot River Elementary!Eliot River Elementary sponsored a Literacy and Reading for Fun campaign that included a one million minute Reading for Fun challenge. The children reached the reading target and their prize was watching their principal Gene MacDonald have his head shaved. Other events included publication of the Eliot River Chronicles, a student newspaper that included literacy items. One day they had a Drop Everything and Read event where everyone from students to the school janitor took 1/2 an hour to get comfortable and read. As a wrap-up event parents were invited to a science-fair style book fair presented by the students. CongratulationsWomen’s Network is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its incorporation in 1984. 2004 Canada Post Literacy AwardsWinners of the 2004 Canada Post Literacy Awards will be announced in August. The business meeting begins at 6:00 pm followed by a guest speaker. At 7:30 the Canada Post Literacy Awards will be presented. A reception will follow the awards presentation. |
