Laubach Literacy of BC is now a registered society and we are on the road to receiving a Revenue Canada tax number, which will put us in a better position to solicit funds and form new partnerships.

Be a better tutor: go on-line

I know, I know. Everybody's doing it, and being a rebellious Luddite type you really feel you should try to buck the trend. But the fact is, getting on the internet will put you in touch with the latest and the best literacy resources in the world. You can access the information you need, right in your home and office.

Lack of cash is no longer an excuse. You can buy a fast new computer with internet access for under $1,000. If you shop around you can find a slightly slower, older used computer with internet access for under $200. After a few of hours of experience youll have a world of information at your fingertips.

For example, the National Adult Literacy Database has access and links to many of the resources you'll need, including back issues of Alphabet Scoop and other Laubach publications:

http://www.nald.ca

With internet access, you'll also be able to send and receive e-mail - surely the greatest invention since the pony express.

Sending and receiving e-mail has virtually revived the lost art of letter writing. You'll find that friends from whom you used to receive scarcely line or two on a Christmas card a few years ago will start sending you e-mail on a regular basis. E-mail correspondence is fun, easy and fast!
