| This is where you can help. The Laubach membership in BC has an opportunity to support all the councils in the province by electing two of our own to the National Board. Anne Knott, who was the most recent field worker for the Lower Mainland is letting her name stand for the Lower Mainland is letting her name stand for election. If you have been with Laubach for more than a year you have probably met her. Anne's background is in business. Her leadership, commitment and creativity would add a wonderful "voice" for the West at the National level.
In the Interior, there is Wayne Cunningham with his strong background in fund-raising and education. He was the executive director for Saskatchewan Arts Board which raised several million dollars. He has also been campus principal at Georgian College in Barrie, Ont. He was Vice President of Administration and Human Resources at Cariboo College and director of instruction and college partnerships at the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook. Wayne is also on our Provincial Board and is Vice President of the Kamloops Council. He would be a strong, resourceful and competent National Board member. This is the first time that two Board members can be elected at one time from BC. Let's hitch our wagons together and support them. FAMILY LITERACY The past year has been one of tremendous growth and progress for Family Literacy in BC. This progression has in turn created an environment for quicker growth for LLC's "Creating a Learning Culture in the Home" Family Literacy workshops. Some of the milestone events that have happened in Kamloops regarding Family Literacy are the meetings that have been held with interested community members and representatives of child and youth serving agencies. These meetings couldn't have been organized without the help and support of our BC Laubach Field Worker, Jan Seedhouse. Thank you again Jan. The meetings have given community members the opportunity to discuss Family Literacy and from those discussions create a common definition for it. Once we started talking about what it could look like we quickly recognized that Kamloops already had a Family Literacy initiative happening with its First Steps program. We also realized that we had a variety of other resources being offered in the community that, when "connected" or used together, added up to complete Family Literacy resources. |
