September 1999 Laubach Literacy of BC Volume 3, Number 2

Toward a Laubach BC provincial organization

Achieving status as a provincial organization can be an advantage for every Council in the province. Most significantly, the provincial organization can lobby the provincial government for support and funding. Also, there are a number of British Columbia based companies which can be approached for project funding or core funding to help local Council activities. The first step is complete -- our name has been approved by the provincial government: Laubach Literacy of British Columbia.

Cher McLean

With a provincial organization, there will also be an opportunity to fund an annual general meeting with training opportunities for BC Councils.

We're now recruiting members for the Provincial Board. The commitment would be one face-to-face meeting per year (the AGM), plus a number of conference calls.

Currently Board members include:

  • Cher McLean - President
  • Wayne Cunningham - National Board Representative
  • Anne Knott - National Board representative
  • Jane Fitschen - Secretary Treasurer
  • Marilyn Hunley - Provincial Training Officer
Wayne Cunningham

The following positions have to be filled:
- Vice President
- Public Relations and Communications
- Student Representative
- Directors at Large representing BC Councils
If you would like to nominate someone (including yourself), contact the Kamloops office at 1-800-766-4660.
