LPQ Research Report Completed

LPQ is pleased to announce that Student Services in Adult Literacy: 50/50 Management and Literacy Delivery has been completed. This publication describes a project which was funded by the National Literacy Secretariat and carried out in partnership with two member groups of LPQ during 1999.

The two groups involved in the project worked with a coordinator over a six-month period to explore how applying 50/50 Management to their organizations could enhance their services and help them carry out their mandates. Their activities and experiences were carefully documented throughout the process, and this report is based on the details of that process.

The project was prompted by LPQ's earlier research into the LEARN Line, Increasing awareness for successful outcomes - Referral Systems in Quebec which indicated that there are a number of factors which influence outcomes in service provision.

One finding of the research into the LEARN line was based on the responses of students, potential students, tutors and potential tutors and found that many volunteer organizations are not always able to address the needs of their students and tutors.

This is most often due to volunteer groups having too little time and too few resources to analyze their systems and evaluate how they can better function by changing some elements of their operation.

The report is posted on our website, but if you would like to have a hard copy, please call the LPQ office. Copies are available for the cost of postage and handling.

Golf Day for Literacy 99 Grants

Literacy Partners of Quebec chose to allocate our portion of the profits of Golf Day for Literacy '99, approximately $7,000, to adults with learning disabilities. This money will allow us to offer a limited number of bursaries to adult learners who may have a learning disability.

We are committed to offering opportunities for the best possible clinical services to adults who have learning disabilities. To this end, we will be working with The Learning Associates of Montreal to carry out clinical assessment and planning services to people with learning disabilities.

These careful assessments are very time-consuming and costly and we would like to ensure that services are made available to all individuals who need them, not only to learners who can afford this cost.

Regular Members of LPQ who provide direct service have received information about how their learners can apply for these bursaries. If your organization qualifies, be sure that you have all the information you need to help an adult learner apply for a subsidy.
