Annual General Meeting

LPQ held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, October 18, 2001 at Hôtel Ruby Foo's in Montreal.

At that time, members of LPQ elected the Board of Directors for 2001 - 2002 and said a special good-bye to outgoing board member, Eric Diehl. Eric has served the maximum consecutive three terms as a member of the board of LPQ, and it was with sincere regret that we saw him leave. However, we know that this just a brief good-bye, and we look forward to Eric's return to the LPQ Board.

Board members for 2001-2002 are: Gillian di Vito
Richard Evans
Lisa Lucas
Jay McKinnell
Enid Shatner
Nancy Weed
Margaret Wildman
Renée Yardley
Tahira Zaki

LPQ Literacy Award

Recipient of the LPQ Literacy Award, 2001 was Ed McDougall.

Ed, a retired High School teacher, has never lost his touch nor has ever given up on the power of teaching. Several years ago, while working as a volunteer tutor with an adult student, Ed also offered some volunteer time to LPQ. He was invaluable to the office for the work he did as well as for his wonderful disposition.

Shortly after, LPQ referred Ed to Action ABC to work with students, as this was clearly Ed's first love. He began to work with students at one of Action ABC's sites and now works with students at several of the sites.

Ed is the consummate teacher. He is patient, respectful and a truly honorable man. In every sense of the word, Ed is a "gentle man." We are proud to have been able to present this award to him and thank him for his important contribution to literacy.
