LPQ's Marks its Tenth Anniversary

It seems almost impossible to imagine that this year marks LPQ's tenth year as an organization. Incorporated in May 1992, LPQ has certainly grown and undergone many changes over the years.

We are proud of our achievements, aware of our shortcomings and humbled by the work that still remains to be done to advance the cause of literacy in Quebec. We consider our members and the people they serve to be our greatest assets. We are gratified by their support and look forward to continuing to meet their needs.

This is a time for LPQ to reflect on the past and also to look to the future. As we do so, we hope that as LPQ grows, we will continue to play an important role in the literacy movement and to contribute to its success.

Most of all, we look forward to being able to celebrate our Twentieth anniversary when we are able to look back on an additional ten years of achievement for literacy in Quebec.

The PGI Returns to LPQ

LPQ is extremely happy to announce that we will be the Quebec home of the PGI Golf Tournaments for Literacy beginning next year.

Sponsored by ABC CANADA, the PGI Golf Tournaments for Literacy are held in each province across the country to honour Peter Gzowski who died recently. He was a passionate advocate for literacy and leaves behind a legacy of support for the cause.

LPQ will once again host the PGI beginning next May and will be the home of the PGI in Quebec. Watch for more details about next year's PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy in Quebec in the next issue of Literacy Clips.

In Memoriam
Eric Diehl
1942 - 2002

Eric Diehl, a longtime LPQ Board member, Past Vice-President and friend, passed away suddenly on March 13, 2002.

Eric was as passionate about literacy as he was about his many other interests and hobbies. He was a gifted teacher, an accomplished musician, a gardener, a bird-watcher, an activist. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father.

Eric served on the LPQ Board for six years, the maximum allowed by our by-laws. However, we all looked forward to his return after he had sat out a year. His death was a terrible shock to LPQ, as it was to all who knew him.

He will be sadly missed and long remembered by all his friends at LPQ.
