LPQ to Hold Annual General MeetingLPQ will hold its annual general meeting on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. At that time, we will present a report on activities of the past year as well as an audited financial statement. We will also elect a new board for 2004 – 2005. LPQ members will receive more details in the mail and are also invited to call the office for information. International Literacy Day, September 8A number of literacy organizations observed International Literacy Day with their own local activities on September 8. The Centre for Literacy, in collaboration with the Quebec Writer’s Federation launched the 1st Annual Montreal Poetry Challenge at Plaza Côte-des-Neiges. Second Annual Come Read With Me! Contest Winners ChosenLPQ, the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages and Quebec Federation of Home and School Associations will officially announce the winners of the Second Annual Come Read With Me! Contest. Started in 2002, the goals of this contest are to promote literacy among young English-speaking Quebecers living in a minority-language community as well as to encourage young people to take a greater interest in reading for pleasure. The contest promotes Canadian literature while creating a greater awareness of literacy. Winners will be announced on October 5 at a ceremony at Sinclair Laird School in Montreal, when well-known Canadian author Marie-Louise Gay will be the special guest. All winners will receive a $75 gift certificate at Babar Books, and their school libraries will receive $500 gift certificates also from Babar. ABC CANADA, Coca- Cola Continue to “share the stories” Across CanadaFunding projects helps develop lifelong readers and learners. ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation is now accepting applications from literacy organizations, school libraries and public libraries interested in obtaining funding from share the stories, a corporate philanthropy program first launched by Coca-Cola Ltd. in 2001. |
