LITERACY PARTNERS OF QUEBEC MARCH 2005 VOLUME 11 ISSUE 2

Annual PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy Back in Full Swing

Spring and golf are in the air, and evidence of that is the activity around the 2005 PGI Golf Day for Literacy.

After the huge success of last year’s tournament, we are very eager to return to Club de Golf Le Blainvillier in Blainville for this year’s tournament on Tuesday June 5, 2005, and it promises to be another great day. We and our partners at The Gazette are planning for an even bigger and better tournament and an even more significant impact on literacy in Quebec.

We are extremely happy to have Alan Allnutt, Publisher & General Manager of The Gazette, and Réjean Houle, Ambassor of Les Canadiens as Co-Chairmen. With a team like this, we are confident that the tournament will be another great event.

We look forward to an excellent day of golf with celebrity golfers, great prizes and fine entertainment.

For more information about how you can participate in the tournament, call the LPQ office at (514) 369-7962.

Family Literacy Day at LPQ

January 27 has become synonymous with the launch of Come Read With Me! at LPQ. For the third year, this has been the day when the activity officially begins.

This year was no exception. The festivities were held at Coronation School in Montreal and were covered live by Richard Dagenais for GlobalTV’s early morning show, This Morning Live.

Students from all cycles including Pre-K participated in reading and listening activities while teachers and guests looked on. It was a wonderful way to illustrate the power of reading and the positive effects it has on children of all ages. The enthusiasm of the principal, teachers and children at Coronation School was most heartening and firmly underscored the need and value of initiatives like Come Read With Me!

FLD at McGill Daycare

McGill Daycare held their annual Family Literacy Day Penny-A-Page fundraiser. The event began on January 27 and finished on March 2, Dr.Seuss' Birthday. The daycare is comprised of 106 families in the installation with an additional 43 families in Home Childcare.

The McGIll Childcare community collected over $700.00 which will be used to purchase much needed literacy materials.
