Membership Campaign Underway at LPQ
LPQ officially launched its membership campaign early in November and is pleased to report a brisk response even at this early stage and following a postal strike. To date, we have 17 members and expect many more. The three categories of membership are:

Regular Member - $35
Organizations that are involved in direct provision or support of literacy programs.

Associate Member - $17
Organizations that support literacy initiatives but do not provide direct service of any kind.

Individual Member - $17

Adult Student - $5

Membership to LPQ offers several advantages including eligibility for receiving grants from fundraising activities, a vote at the Annual General Meeting, theater tickets through WORD-Wide Web for students, and a subscription to Literacy Clips.

Operation of the LEARN Line will continue to operate as usual, and referrals will be made to all organizations regardless of their membership status with LPQ. Because our primary goal is to help students get access to the help they need, we will refer them to any group which can provide them the service.

For more information about joining LPQ, please contact us by phone, fax or email.

WORD-Wide Web Continues
The number of literacy and ABE students who have enjoyed theatrical performances continues to grow as a result of our partnership with the Quebec Drama Federation. Recipients of tickets from the Centaur Theater Company so far this season include students from:

  • Literacy Unlimited
  • Laurenval Lit. Council
  • N.D.G. Food Depot
  • McGill Students for Literacy

The Centaur has donated additional vouchers for:
Taking Sides - Feb. 24 - March 16
High Life - April 1 - April 20
Angels in America - May 5 - May 25

These tickets are available to students of members of LPQ. If you would like to receive vouchers, please notify LPQ in writing by mail, fax or email.

Poster Contest Update
LPQ is very pleased to announce that we now have a partner in the poster contest which was launched last September 8.

The Quebec Federation of Home and School Associations (QFHSA) has now joined us in this exciting activity, and they will play an important role in the contest.

As a result of this new partnership, the deadline for submitting entries has been extended to January 31, 1998.

For information about contest rules and for entry forms, please contact LPQ or QFHSA.

Golf Day for Literacy 98
Plans for our annual golf day at Cedarbrook Golf Club on Monday, May 25 are well underway. This year LPQ will host the Golf Day in partnership with The Centre for Literacy.

Rounding off the Golf Day family will be CBC and Dennis Trudeau. CBC continues to be our media sponsor and Dennis will again be our host and guest golfer. Join us at Cedarbrook Golf Club on Monday, May 25, 1998.

Proceeds have already been designated for projects in Health and Literacy and Family Literacy.
