A reception was held for the Coalition
Teams, Senator Fairbairn and her staff, the Members of Parliament (MPs), and
representatives from many national literacy and partner organizations. |

Speeches were made in support of adult literacy by MPs from all parties
and by adult learners who told of the impact of literacy on their lives. This
photo shows Gordon DeWolfe, MCL Learner Spokesperson, giving his speech. |
The Book of Changes was displayed. It contained more
than 200 stories sent to MCL by learners from across Canada. Learners spoke of
the changes they experienced in their lives since they returned to school. We
hope it brought literacy to life for the MPs who read from it. |

Networking was a big part of the day. Here Sandy Johnston (MCL Ontario
Learner Representative) chats with Wendy DesBrisay (Executive Director of MCL)
and Charles Ramsey (Executive Director of NALD: National Adult Literacy
Database). Often the seeds of future cooperation are planted at these
events. |
Photo opportunities with Senator Joyce Fairbairn and
other politicians were possible for many Coalition members. Here we see
Literacy Partners of Manitoba represented by Marg Rose (Executive Director),
Joe Dutra (Manitoba Learner Representative to MCL) and Tess Genise (Manitoba
MCL Board Rep) to the right of the Senator. |

These photos are a wonderful reminder of Literacy Action
Day and of those who are learning, working and acting for
literacy. |
