Exciting learner projects:
learners as researchers, teachers and performers!

In this issue we feature three inspiring stories of learner teams working on projects in Canada and the United States.

1.) The LEARN Team: “Making Connections”an action research project from British Columbia.

2.) Operation Bootstrap’s Student Action Health Team of peer teachers from Massachusetts, U.S.A.

3.) Yukon Learn’s learner team at The Robert W. Service (Poetry) Festival.

Making Connections” in British Columbia

A group of six adult learners, called the LEARN Team, wanted to help other learners across the province connect with each other by creating a learner network.

To learn how, they did an action research project coordinated by Sandy Middleton of Literacy BC.

In action research, you investigate a question.
The question they investigated was:

What’s Inside

Making Connections

Student Action Health Team

When Learners Become Teachers

Reports from Across Canada

Computer Corner (insert)

Literacy, is it in the government’s plans?

Learners answer the call!

Yukon Learners “grin” and win

“How do we build and maintain connections among learners?”

In action research you also do something.
The team produced a ten page newsletter about their project, that could be shared with other learners.

For a copy of the complete newsletter, contact Literacy BC by phone: 604-684-0624, fax: 604-684-8520 or email: literacy_bc@douglas.bc.ca or check it out on their website: www.nald.ca/lbc.htm

To follow the team’s steps, continue reading our edited version of their newsletter on the next page.
