| New Brunswick's community-based literacy initiative was the focus
of a visit Feb. 6-7 by representatives from the African country of
Burkina Faso.
Ambassador Mouhoussine Nacro and Seydou Sanou, Minister of Basic Education and Literacy, visited adult literacy classrooms in Moncton and Kent County that are part of the Community Academic Services Program. They also met with several literacy initiative partners including government officials, volunteers, private sector and non-profit representatives. The visit was hosted by Literacy New Brunswick Inc., a non-profit organization which is orchestrated by the province's literacy initiative. While in Fredericton, Ambassador Nacro and Minister Sanou met with Advanced Education and Labour Minister Roly MacIntyre and Georgie Day, Minister of State for Literacy and Adult Education. During their visit, Ambassador Nacro and Minister Sanou also had an opportunity to learn about services offered by the National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) and the technologies used by TeleEducation in the delivery of distance education.
