The Word on the Street

The eighth annual The Word on the Street Festival is one of the largest literary events in Canada, with five cities holding the book and magazine fair on the last Sunday of September. Calgary and Ottawa will join Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver on Sunday September 27, 1998, in simultaneous festivals, uniting the country in a national celebration of reading and writing which highlights the importance of literacy in the lives of all Canadians. A myriad of events and activities will be featured along with authors, actors, poets, playwrights, musicians and thousands of books and magazines from Canada and around the world. Each year, national and community based literacy organizations participate in The Word On The Street as well, stressing the importance of literacy and education.
