STEVE SALTER
(former technician)

Still in London, Ontario, but doing a lot better.. More seriously, I now teach computer programming at The Career Academy, a private college with campuses across Canada. I have also achieved certification as a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (and that’s a good thing to be.)

Nowadays, I am rarely up at 5:00 AM programming, because Ben, my new son, is a much better sleeper than Tim was at one year old. In addition to teaching, I am working on three-tier application development with Java and Visual Basic. I am also updating some certifications.

Steven Salter, B.A., MCSD

ELAINE BOND
(former Project Officer)

I am working for Retail Services. When I am not placing hardware/software orders and keeping the store stocked, I am working in the Computer Store, selling products. I also provide quotations for various departments, and am the divisional secretary.

I have two dogs, Harley and Mariah. My husband and I own a house and we are in the process of re-doing our spare bedroom.

Elaine Bond

JEANNINE MCINTYRE
(former Assistant to the Executive Director)

Since leaving NALD, I have had the opportunity to work (with a wonderful group of people) in the Health Sciences Division of Fanshawe College, for the Chair, Pat Kirkby. As divisional secretary and with 8 programs in this Division, (Dental Assistant - Level I and II, Dental Hygiene, Paramedic, Practical Nursing, Pre-Health Science, Nursing, Medical Radiation Technology and Respiratory Therapy), there is never a dull moment!

My husband and I love to travel, and will someday cruise around the world. However, with a son in university (two of his five years completed - YEAH!) and a daughter hoping to begin university in the fall, this adventure will have to be put on hold for a few years.

I am always pleased to receive the NALD newsletter as I am amazed at the ‘giant leaps’ NALD has taken. KUDOS to all.

Jeannine McIntyre

TAMARA ILERSICH
(former Executive Director)

I am now living in Vancouver, British Columbia, enjoying the province’s natural beauty - sea kayaking being one of our favourite activities. Jim and I are loving our new role as parents, although regular sleep is dearly missed. James Perry Cook turned one on January 30, 1997. For the last 2 years, I worked as an Administration Manager for a medium sized community based non-profit organization. Recently, I changed positions and am enjoying my role as Administrative Analyst at Capilano College. Among many pluses, it is providing me with the opportunity to be once again involved with systems development from the users perspective.

I enjoy receiving NALD newsletters and keeping up to date. NALD will always be very special to me. I am so pleased that it continues to provide a service to its clientele.

Teaching Tips

Use work families such as bat, cat, fat, hat to help build students' reading and spelling vocabulary quickly.

For easily confused words, use memory tricks to help students ‘fix’ a difficult spelling in their mind, like ‘to- too- two’, or ‘where -wear - were’.
