"The
PGIs bring together so much that matters to me: friends, laughter,
poetry, music-all playing to make a better world. Thanks to thousands
of golfers, corporate sponsors and hardworking volunteers, the PGIs
have become a network that stretches from sea to sea to, as I am proud
to say, sea. We've raised millions of dollars to help people learn to
read and write or just make their lives a little better. And we're
going to keep on doing it." |

Founded in 1986 by author and broadcaster Peter Gzowski to raise funds for literacy across Canada, the PGIs (for "Peter Gzowski Invitationals") have raised over $5 million since 1986. Every dollar raised at a PGI stays in the community to help support local literacy programs. The PGIs are fun, informal affairs, featuring music and poetry-every tournament has a Poet Laureate! Special guests this season include CBC TV's Peter Mansbridge, CBC Radio Two's Shelagh Rogers, Globe and Mail golf columnist Lorne Rubenstein, and Ernie Coombs (a.k.a. Mr. Dressup).
