Vista Family Resource Centre
Incorporated Funds were awarded to establish the PRINTS
(Parents Roles Interacting with Teacher Support) program. The objectives of
this project are: to form partnerships between communities and schools; to
involve the community in supporting the literacy development of children; to
empower parents and care-givers to give their children the best start in
literacy; and to promote literacy development. Community Association of Virginia Park
Funds were awarded to establish the PRINTS
(Parents Roles Interacting With Teacher Support) program (See above for
goals/objectives of the PRINTS program). Teachers On Wheels Funds were awarded to assist with the
continuous operation of literacy services at the center and to meet its
objective of offering a literacy service to learners; maintaining office space
in St. John's; promoting the Teachers On Wheels organization; and to advocate
for a literate population. Exploits Valley Community Coalition
Monies were awarded to establish a Story Time
Adventures Program. The goals of this project are: to increase literacy
development in children; to provide interactive play experiences that will
increase problem solving, thinking, reasoning and creating; and to provide
children with opportunities for growth and stimulation in all areas of
development. Our Lady Queen of Peace School
Funds were awarded to obtain a variety of
literacy materials. The goal of the project is to raise the literacy levels of
school-aged children who are identified with literacy needs. St. Teresa's School Funds were awarded to the present literacy
project at St. Teresa's School. This project aims to develop greater parental
awareness and focus on the parent connection with the school. A literacy
newsletter will be developed and distributed monthly. Burin Peninsula Laubach Literacy
Council Funds were awarded to assist with the
continuous operation of the Learn for Tomorrow Centre. The goal of this project
is to help clients reach their personal academic goals. Partners in Learning Funding was awarded to offer PRINTS (Parents
Roles Interacting With Teacher Support) The goal is to offer this program to at
least two groups in the Southern Labrador area. St. James Elementary School Monies were awarded to assist in providing
adequate stimulation in language and literacy to preschool children. The goal
is to deal with inadequacies before they can affect a child's performance and
broaden experiences so they can better understand and make sense of the world.
