The Literacy Development Council would like to congratulate Lloyd Rossiter who was recently honoured for his outstanding efforts in the area of literacy. Mr. Rossiter, who is currently the Public Relations Coordinator and Secretary of the Bayshore Literacy Council, received the 2003 Susie Day Volunteer of the Year Award.

Mr. Rossiter was presented with his award at the Annual General Meeting of the Newfoundland and Labrador Laubach Literacy Council (NLLLC) held in Stephenville last October. This award was in recognition of Mr. Rossiter's outstanding efforts in literacy awareness and promotion in the Trinity-Conception area throughout 2003.

Mr. Rossiter, who is a native of Carbonear, has been a member of his local Laubach Literacy Council Executive for the past two years. Mr. Rossiter was also elected Vice-President of Laubach's Provincial Executive at their AGM.

Bayshore Literacy Council provides free tutoring in reading, writing, and numeracy skills to adult learners. All tutoring takes place in a comfortable environment, at the pace of the learner and is strictly confidential.

The Susie Day Volunteer of the Year Award is given in honour of Susie Day of Garnish. Mrs. Day first brought Laubach Literacy methodology to our province approximately 20 years ago and is still involved with the Burin Peninsula Laubach Council.
