Family Literacy Day 2004
On January 27th, many groups throughout
the province celebrated "Family Literacy Day" . The Literacy
Development Council of Newfoundland and Labrador helped promote
this special day on the CBC News weather segment with Karl
Wells, the CBC Radio Noon show
with Anne Budgell, and at several other events in the St. John's
area.
One such event was a "collaboration" of awareness and information
booths at the Avalon Mall. Other organizations involved were
the Open Book Literacy Council
(Laubach), Department of Education/Literacy Branch, Teachers on Wheels, Rabbittown
Learner's Program and Murphy Centre. There were prizes, face
tattoos, and readings
by authors and government officials. The LDC also launched
a Family Literacy Day Poster Contest for schools throughout
the province. Prizes will be awarded during Education Week 2004.
We'd like to thank everyone who joined in on January
27th to celebrate Family Literacy Day lpd help promote literacy
in our province.
