| The Newfoundland and Labrador Women's Institutes Funds were provided to assist the Newfoundland and Labrador Women's
Institutes in initiating a series of Area Literacy Workshops. This project is
called LINKS (Linking Institutes, Neighbours, Knowledge and Skills.) These
workshops would encourage members to get involved and would also help them to
seek ways to assist people with tasks that involve literacy. LIFE Inc. Funds were provided to promote and enhance an on-going Pre-School program in
the community. This program is titled LIFE (Learning Information for Everyone).
The intent of this program is to provide the best possible learning opportunity
for the youth.
St. Barbe Development Association Funds were provided to help the St. Barbe Development Association develop a
model plan which will result for the implementation of literacy skills training
at the senior level. The objectives proposed will lead to the development of a
literacy skills model needed for seniors participating in social activities.
Virginia Park School Literacy Committee Funds were provided to help the Virginia Park School Literacy Committee in
initiating a Home and School Together project. This project focuses on a number
of literacy skills. Parents, as well as children, are expected to benefit from
developing greater knowledge of what can be offered to individuals and families
at the centre.
Burin Peninsula Laubach Literacy Council Funds were provided to allow the Burin Peninsula Laubach Literacy Council
provide the continuous operation of the Learn for Tomorrow Centre project. The
goal of this project is to help clients to reach their personal academic goals.
Gander & Area Laubach Literacy Council Funds were provided to assist the Gander & Area Laubach Literacy Council for a number of learners to attend the "Fly To The Future ...Laubach 2000" Atlantic Regional Conference in Gander, May 25-28, 2000. The learners will attend workshops and network with their regional and provincial counterparts. Amount Awarded: $7,534.25 Green Bay South Academy Funds were provided to assist the Green Bay South Academy to implement a
PRINTS (Parents Roles Interacting with Teacher Support) program. The goal of
this program is to address the problem of low student achievement levels
through parental involvement. |
