Blind Date... with a Star!

On June 25, 2002 the LDANL held it's first Blind Date... with a Star! fundraiser. The event was a tremendous success, all monies raised will go directly to the operational cost of LDANL so they can continue to offer information and support to those individuals who require our assistance. Many thanks to volunteers, supporting sponsors, corporate partners, participating restaurants, and all ticket purchasers. Next year's event will be bigger & better!

Camp Enrichment

During a 5 week period over the summer the LDANL, with partial funding from HRDC, was able to offer a summer camp for children with learning disabilities. For the children, this camp provided them a unique way to improve their academic learning strategies and social skills while still having fun. The camp was administered by 3 university students who certainly provided a very positive learning experience for the kids.

Awareness Campaign

The last of the workshops for the Awareness Campaign was held in Comer Brook on August 28, 2002. These workshops have been very successful for all participants, they educate professionals about learning disabilities and provide suggestions on how to help individuals affected by learning disabilities.

The Learning Disabled Mind

Albert Einstein did not speak until the age of three. Even as an adult Einstein found that searching for words was laborious. He found school work, especially math, difficult and was unable to express himself in written language. He was able to achieve by visualizing rather than by the use of language. His work on relativity, which revolutionized modem physics, was created in his spare time.

"Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."
