The goals of this project are: to increase literacy development in children; to provide interactive play experiences that will increase problem solving, thinking, reasoning and creating; and to provide children with opportunities for growth and stimulation in all areas of development. Amount Awarded: $2,400.00

Vista Family Resource Centre Incorporated

Funds were awarded to assist the Vista Family Resource Centre Incorporated to establish the PRINTS (Parents Roles Interacting with Teacher Support) program. The objectives of this project are: to form partnerships between communities and schools; to involve the community in supporting the literacy development of children; to empower parents and care-givers to give their children the best start in literacy; and to recognize the contribution which parents currently make to literacy development. Amount Awarded: $7,500.00

Funds were awarded to assist the Community Association of Virginia Park with the establishment of the PRINTS (Parents Roles Interacting With Teacher Support) program. The goal of this program is to develop literacy skills of the pre-school children in the community. The program will also stress, to parents and care-givers, the importance of early literacy development. Amount Awarded: 5,500.00

Funds were awarded to Teachers On Wheels to assist with the continuous operation of literacy services at the centre. The objectives of this project are: to offer a literacy service to learners; to maintain office space in St. John's; to promote the Teachers On Wheels organization; and to advocate for a literate population. Amount Awarded: $45,000.00

Funds were awarded to the present literacy project at St. Teresa's School. This project aims to develop greater parent awareness and focus on the parent connection. This will be done by hiring a PRINTS (Parents Roles Interacting With Teacher Support) facilitator to deliver the program to two groups. A literacy newsletter will be developed and sent to school families. once a month Amount Awarded: $16,000.00
