| Laubach Literacy of Canada Funds were provided to support Laubach
Literacy of Canada's proposal for the 1999 - 2000 NF/LB Field services
program. These monies will be used to continue to support and strengthen the
leadership of volunteer Laubach literacy councils established throughout the
province. A Field Services Officer will be available to assist with the
provision of resources, training opportunities, and specific program needs.
Gander Bay Community Action Program For Children The goal of this project is to implement programs that will promote the
health, education, social, emotional and physical growth of children from birth
to the age of six. As a result two pilot projects of the Parent-Child Mother
Goose program will be established in Hillview Academy, Norris Arm and
Summerford Elementary, Summerford. William Mercer Academy The main goal of this project is to provide parents with a good source of
literature and activities to share with pre-school children at home and to work
with pre-school children in school to develop readiness for kindergarten. The
target population is 3-4 year old children in the Hare Bay-Dover area. Battle Harbour Literacy Council A Book Bag Program will be implemented in the community of Mary's Harbour
with support from the community school, the CAP site and parent volunteers. The
intent of this program is to target preschool children in their home
environments with an organized approach to a solid foundation for reading. Baie Verte Peninsula Economic Development Association Funds were awarded to support the implementation of a literacy program for
the parents of preschool children from six communities in the Baie Verte
region. A PRINTS program will be offered; this program is directed at
parent/care givers who then deliver the program in their own homes. Women's Discovery Network The purposes of this project include; helping women acknowledge how
literacy affects their daily lives, developing public awareness of available
materials, highlighting success stories of women who have surpassed literacy
concerns and determining what the Women's Discovery Network can do to assist
women affected by literacy issues. Nine forums will be established throughout
Economic Zone 15 to address these issues. Deer Lake and District Literacy Council Funds were provided to assist with the establishment of a reading camp for
school-aged children in the Deer Lake region. The goals of the program include
fostering reading and writing skill development, social development and
highlighting awareness of environmental issues. |
