Chris Girard has retired from PWC . . . it still sounds strange to my ears. After working with Chris for so many years, it feels funny not to see her every day, or to hear her hearty laugh in the office next door.
PWC’s 2nd annual Power of Words Breakfast was a celebration to remember. A HUGE thank you goes out to the learners, volunteer tutors, PWC Board Members and staff, members of the community and friends of PWC, the guest speakers and our sponsors who made this event such a success.
2010 is almost over! What? Where does the time go? To celebrate the year end, and to rest up for 2011, PWC will be closed and the staff will be on vacation from Friday, Dec. 17th until Monday, January 3. We will re-open on Tuesday, January 4.
What a winning combination! An enthusiastic group of learners, tutors and honoured guests gathered at PWC’s first annual Power of Words Breakfast on Wednesday, September 8th, to celebrate International Literacy Day.

During the week of April 17, organizations in all areas of Canada will be taking time to recognize and say thank you to their volunteers. Last year, 12.5 million volunteers across the country gave 2.1 billion hours of their time, energy and skills to the benefit of literacy programs, community services, shelters, hospitals, sports teams, environment, political movements, disaster relief, international aid and development agencies, and to the arts and culture scene to name a few.
Happy retirement, Kae! Kae McColl, our PWC Coordinator for over 20 years, has decided to retire. Kae is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren, long walks with her collie Laddie and getting back to painting, tennis, swimming and reading of course! Much as we will miss her in the office, Kae will not be totally absent from PWC.
Annual General Meeting – you are invited! Come and meet the folks who work hard behind the scenes to take care of the legal and financial health of the organization. They are our dedicated Board of Directors, and this is their annual business meeting.
