In September, READ received $300 from the Paul Gallagher Community Access Fund. As a former President of Literacy BC, the fund was established in his memory to provide community based learning centres with financial resources to help adult students with emergency needs. Bus fare, daycare, clothing, gas money or other costs that would make a difference between attending and not attending a literacy/ABE (Adult Basic Education) program are covered by the fund. We use this grant to provide our adult students with lunch and snacks - crackers, cheese, milk, oatmeal, hot chocolate - as well as bus passes.
