After the successful launch of Art Boudreau’s first novel, Elephant Mountain, in June 2005, the news just keeps getting better. Nominated by his teacher at READ, Art is the newest recipient of the Canada Post 2005 Literacy Award for Individual Achievement in British Columbia. His award will be presented to him on September 8th ~ International Literacy Day ~ at a special event in Courtney, BC. Art is more than deserving of this honour. We are proud of him and wish him well as he gets to work on the sequel to Elephant Mountain. Well done!! “The Canada Post Literacy Awards were established more than a decade ago to discover and acknowledge the achievements of Canadians who have made a special effort or an important contribution to literacy. Today, the awards have become Canada's only national honour dedicated to recognizing grassroots literacy initiatives and celebrating the achievements of both learners and those who have helped them learn to read and write.”
“Literacy, especially functional literacy, and quality of education represent a lifelong necessity for all and serve as an investment in human and social capital and a major tool for the empowerment of people.” United Nations General Assembly, January 2000 Check out READ’s full page ad for International Literacy Day in the Times Colonist on September 8th.
