Coffee HouseThis years Coffee House promises to be a great evening. Everyone is working hard to make it as good or better than the last one. We have some very eager performers as well as a great turnout for artists. Don’t forget, it is happening on February 28th, 2004 at 7:00 pm at the Red Lake Legion. It is free and there will be coffee and snacks. Plan to be among the ones attending. Spring Basket
We just finished with the Christmas Basket and it is time to start on our Spring basket. We have a beautiful collection of things for the lucky winner again this time. The draw will be held on April 8th, 2004 at the Lakeview Restaurant. Be sure to get your ticket, you could be the lucky winner. Fresh StartOur class celebrated the New Year with a week of activities that we tagged “Fresh Start”. It was a great way to begin, with many volunteers from the Community coming in to give a variety of workshops to our regular students. Cheryl Macumber did one on the Medicine Wheel, Kara Parkhurst talked to us about Body Image, and Marilyn Duncalfe, from Job Connect demonstrated job search techniques and interview skills. As we were here all day, nice hot lunches of homemade soup, beans and chilli were served. This was a welcome winter break from the regular routine. Conference in Red LakeA Professional Development Conference will be held in Red Lake this year, a first for us. We are looking forward to hosting the literacy practitioners from Kenora, Dryden, Atikoken, Fort Francis, Thunder Bay, Schrieber and Terrace Bay. We have a lot of workshops planned for them, a bus tour to show them our area and they will have the privilege of being guests at our Coffee House. Our guests will be staying at the Training and Conference Centre while in Red Lake. We hope that they enjoy their stay. |
