BACK TO SCHOOL

Well here we are again, the end of the summer season, the beginning of another school year. The days are getting shorter and the evenings a little cooler. The summer has gone by so fast. Now that we have all had a holiday, some time off and some relaxing in the sun, we are getting ready to come back to school and a regular routine and some studying.

We are busy here at the Centre getting back into the swing of things. We are so looking forward to the things that this year will bring, meeting new students, welcoming back previous students. It is shaping up to be a fun and productive year. Good luck to you all in your studies.

HARD TO SAY GOODBYE

With mixed feeling, we say goodbye to Catherine Mochrie. She worked here for nine years and she has decided it is time to move on. She will be working at the High School and we hope the students there appreciate the gem that they are getting. We will miss her here so much. Good luck Catherine!

WELCOME

We would like to welcome our new instructor, Pamela Gagne. We are looking forward to getting to know her. We hope you will stop in and help to make Pam feel welcome. She will be starting full time September 15th.

JOB READINESS TRAINING

New this year! We will be providing a 14 week course that is geared to those wishing to enter or re-enter the workforce.

The program developed by Atikokan Literacy consists of dealing with issues of Self Management and Self Direction, Workforce Essentials, and Computer and Internet Use. Participants will also have the opportunity to earn certificates in Occupational Health and Safety, WHIMIS, First Aid and Smart Serve.

Job resumes, cover letters, application forms, and interview skills will also be dealt with through guest speakers. Participants will identify their current skills and build on them; to realize that many current skills are transferable to the workforce. Basic math and language skills will be developed to ensure success.
