    The OALCF has a new way for a learner to see if they are ready to meet the demands of their next-step-goal: the Culminating Task. This task will assess many skills at once. And it will show that you can use what you know in a new way.

    Thanks to all of the players and volunteers that made our 14th annual Scrabble Tournament another huge success! This year we raised over $11,500 which will go toward our adult literacy programs.

    Last issue we talked about having clear goals. That has always been important. The new OALCF is very much transition-oriented—or all about learning the skills you need to leave our program (your long-term goal). We can help you get ready for one of 5 transition paths.

    Literacy programs all over Ontario are making changes. We will be using the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework (OALCF). This will strengthen our program. And it will help our students move on to employment, higher skills training or a more independent life.

    The Thunder Bay Literacy Group is a comnmunity-based adult learning organization. We welcome and support adults in Thunder Bay who wish to improve their basic reading, writing, math and computer skills in a self-directed manner.

    We are now open for night classes every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8:45 p.m. We offer these classes: English upgrading, Math upgrading, Basic Computer or E-mail & Internet, Intermediate Computer or E-mail & Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
