SCI School Into Its Third Year.We are doing very well. The school at SCI. has become a mainstay and I hope it will be around for many years to come. Yes, we do have many challenges to face but if we take our time each of those challenges will be met, one by one. I would argue that this school is as good as any other school in the justice system. I offer as proof that one need only to look back a couple of years. Then, the room which houses the school looked big and empty. In fact, it was empty. We have come a long way since then. Just recently the school received a large donation of books and magazines and this did not just happen by accident. Through the school paper, which we have been publishing for nearly two years, we have been advertising for help and have received much assistance. Those in the justice circle look forward to receiving their copy of the paper and we will strive to ensure the paper continues. We started in the school with five computers. We now, over a two-year period, can boast about having fifteen. This is a huge accomplishment. We started just over two years ago without a photocopier. To this end, we now have two photocopy machines, both working and in use in the school. The addition of a new VCR and TV last month is indeed a welcome teaching tool to our school. We thank the Canada Post Heritage Club for making such a sizable donation. The development of a computer course for beginners is proving to be very popular. In the next few days fourteen inmates at Salmonier will enroll and start this course. It will be a challenge for them as it was for the other thirty or so inmates that completed this course already. Equally popular is the twelve-week GED course. Four inmates have been very busy studying for the exams that will be written at SCI. later this month.
