Who's Spreading the News?
In the Sunday (November 30,
1997) edition of the Evening Telegram, a very interesting article appeared on
the front page. The article, which was continued on page two, described the
efforts of a few inmates at the Salmonier Correctional Institution who produce
"Time on the Line."
The reporter, Ms. Deana Stokes Sullivan, described
"Time on the Line" as a very interesting newspaper. "
. . . it covers a wide range of topics, from personal
stories to farm news - about the animals and crops
which are an integral part of the institutions work environment . . . ," she said.
The newspapers supervisor, Mr. Leyte, was reported as
saying, "The aim of the newspaper is to improve literacy skills and get
inmates reading and writing."
To the inmates who were interviewed by "The Evening
Telegram" and, more particularly, to those same inmates who spend time
everyday working on their newspaper-CONGRATULATIONS!!!

whole existence. That is "Why" we need programming............
