4 Time on The Line Dec. 15, 1997

Continued from page three

She has experienced everything from an impaired driver to a murderer. She has encountered many different people but she believes in a system of equality. Religion, color or sexual orientation is not on her list of priorities, rehabilitating the offender is.

Cathy would also like to see more programs directed at relapse prevention, especially, for offenders who return to prison on parole suspensions and/or probation violations. This would help inmates not only to get a handle on their lives but to help them on their return to society.

Cathy Croucher is very dedicated to her work and I feel she is an asset to our system. It is through programming that we will achieve the goal of rehabilitation.

She admits that, at times, it is difficult to not feel frustrated and to leave everything within the gates. "There are times," she said, "when you will think about a sad story after you leave or feel someone else's pain." This only shows her love for not only her work but for us as human beings.

Cathy, we need people like you to give us reason to keep struggling because you struggle along the road with us.
