What is a Learning Disability?

"Learning Disabilities" refer to a number of disorders which may affect the acquisition, organization, retention, understanding or use of verbal or non verbal information. These disorders affect learning in individuals who otherwise demonstrate at least average abilities. As such, learning disabilities are distinct from global intellectual deficiency.

Causes

  • Genetic and/or Neurological
  • Injuries that alter Brain Functioning

Specific

  • Poor Nutrition
  • Deprivation of oxygen
  • Hemorrhages
  • Chemicals Toxin's - PCB's, pollution, acid rain, alcohol, smoking, cocaine etc.

Anything that alters the natural development of the brain
