Throughout the ages people have always strived for survival, achievement and success. Every member of the human race does not have the same resources. We tend to be creative with what we have and work towards achieving better. To flip the pages of history one could easily find examples of this mode of thought. Personally when 1 want to visualize the reality of a philosophy I search within the boundaries of my own existence. To analyze things using historical examples can be boring and without great revelation in our present day lives. Within my present surroundings there are many symbolic things that show mans creative nature. To walk around "Salmonier Correctional," every room has a unique touch. The basic necessities for each inmate are readily available at the institution and it is not a struggle to live comfortably but we all have a creative mind. There are times when our creativity warrants our apologies but that is humanity in the spotlight. Salmonier is an extremely organized institution with rules and guidelines that have to be continuously reinforced in order to maintain consistency. Our inventions are always encouraged by staff and given their admiration and praise. Inmates have designed crafts such as cases for their cigarettes, plaques for their families and jewelry boxes. It is amazing to watch inmates assemble and create their crafts with the limited resources they have available to them. In an institutional environment such as Salmonier, the type of equipment that an inmate is permitted to have in their possession is monitored and limited. Therefore, the art of improvising is necessary. Inmates have learned to be creative in order to get their crafts, among other things, completed. The institution itself is very supportive in assisting inmates in their artistic endeavors. The school has a supply of paints, brushes and other art supplies.
