What Is the Electronic Monitoring Program?

The Electronic Monitoring Program is better known as the EM Program' or simply, the bracelet. Perhaps though, it should be called "the anklet."

The system exists to keep track of offenders who are serving their sentences in the community. This system includes a portable transmitter that the offender must wear around his or her ankle. This transmitter will send out a signal that is picked up by a device that is attached to the offender's telephone. If a telephone is not available, the offender may not be accepted to/in this program.

There are, however, several conditions to be accepted:

  1. You must have no pattern of violence in your history.

  2. You must be serving a short sentence or you must be nearing the end of a long sentence.

  3. You have to be willing to obey the rules of the EM Program and accept any and all restrictions and conditions.

  4. You must have a suitable home environment to go to for the EM Program.

If you are accepted into the EM Program, you must stay inside your home unless you have been given to leave. Permission may be given to you by the EM Program authority for the following reasons:

  1. To attend counseling programs

  2. .To go to work

  3. To attend school

  4. To obtain medical care

  5. To participate in any activity that may benefit the community and/or the offender.
