My Opinion
By: J.P.

Dear Readers:

I myself have not spent much time a prison even though I have been incarcerated several times. I am twenty two years of age and I will be spending my twenty third birthday here in the Salmonier Correctional Institution. Every time I come back to this place I find that things have changed so differently. A few years ago when I was here time went very quickly for me but, now the time seems to go more slowly. I realize that you always have to be doing something to take time off your mind.

The very first time I was incarcerated would be about four years ago. I felt afraid and alone, like everything I cared about was taken away from me. As time moved on the feelings of loneliness faded away. Just remember, no matter where you're to or what you are doing time is still passing by. Time doesn't stand still for anyone.

Although I'm here in jail a lot of things have changed for the better. For example, one of the main issues would be the inmate committee, which is held by inmates. An inmate gathers up all the other inmates and everyone can express his needs and concerns. The comments and ideas are passed on to the assistant superintendent and other staff. These comments are then considered and often changes occur.

I would like to thank the person or persons responsible for this inmate committee. The reason for this is because it has made time for me and others a lot easier.

You know who you are.

THANK YOU.
