| Inmate Art brought to the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John's Our teacher, Mr. Leyte, was very busy during the first week of October. Preparations for an Art Show at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John's had to be made. Mr. Leyte spent the week viewing and collecting inmate work while giving words of encouragement to others. I was not disappointed about the amount and quality of the inmate art that was created, Mr. Leyte said. When much effort is put in to creating something good, it usually turns out to be very good. The art work I see here is comparable to any I have seen anywhere. The purpose of the Art Show was to show off inmate art and at the same time drum up support for the continuation of the Art Program at Salmonier. It was a successful show, according to Mr. Leyte. ``I expect we will be getting some supplies as a result of the show. I also expect The Newfoundland Law Society will come through for us again, very soon. In a letter I received from the Society, we can expect a monetary donation in early November. Let me assure you I will make every effort to make the Art Program a continued success. History of the Salmonier Correctional Institution. Imagine the 1930's, mid 1930. That was when the Salmonier Correctional Institution opened. Things were very different then. The freedoms, yes the freedoms, we have in our present day prison system did not exist. Inmates...
