Farm News!!!

Everyone Can Help Us Improve Our Dairy Herd.

You do not have to know anything about dairy cows All you have to do is watch the cows and let me know when you see a cow that needs to be bred.

How do you know when a cow needs to be bred? A cow will show signs of heat. The best and strongest is standing heat. Standing heat is when a cow stands and allows another cow to jump on her back. The cow that stands (the one on the bottom) is the cow I need the number for or if you can not get the number look at her black and white spots so you can recognize her. Our cows are all different.

All our cows are bred using Artificial Insemination (AI). The cow to be bred artificially should be at the end of standing heat which may last up to 18 hours. If a cow is seen in standing heat in the morning she should be bred that evening. If you see her in standing heat in the afternoon or evening she must be bred the next morning.

If we do not get her bred this time it will take another 3 weeks before she can be bred again as she should have heat cycles every 1 7 to 21 days.
