Reasons for Low Literacy |
Respondents were asked: If you
did not learn to read as a child, can you tell me the reasons why? The
responses to this question are reported in Table 5.
Written responses to the
question about reasons for low literacy indicate that learners had strong
reactions to their early literacy experiences.
"I learn more at CASP than when
I was in school"
"I feel ashamed of quitting school..."
"I used
to think I would fail at everything"
"In my school years I was placed
in special education . . . now I don't feel so stupid"
