Adult education programming provides an
important opportunity for low literate adults to develop the basic skills and
confidence they need to further their education and enhance their
employability. While the relationship between literacy training and employment
outcomes is not a linear one, education is still one of the best methods we
know of to enhance employability and to move people from welfare to work:
(Adult education) remains the welfare to
work strategy most clearly linked to long term employment impacts. Moreover,
even for individuals who succeed at getting jobs, education remains central to
the ability to advance on the job and to lift oneself above the ranks of the
working poor.
